Quick Market Update + An Uplifting Opportunity

Charleston Area Market Update

Charleston, SC

Spring is upon us, which in our industry, typically involves a big peak of home buyers checking out properties, negotiating, and closing on new places. But the Coronavirus outbreak has turned our typical activities on its head, as it has for everyone. As an industry (and a company) we have had to make quite a number of adjustments to how we do business for our protection and the protection of our clients. But we are seeing that a lot of what we do can still be accomplished virtually from client meetings, showings, and even closings. Zoom is getting a lot of business from us!

The other positive news is that we are continuing to see activity week after week in our market. 262 properties went under contract this week. Summerville, Ladson, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, and Mt. Pleasant were the closest to their normal activity numbers. They all had great weeks. Mt. Pleasant had 7 over $1M and a median of $650K. Johns Island and townhomes/condos also did well. North Charleston was the weakest area compared to normal.

While real estate and housing is considered an essential service, and we are extremely lucky to have the opportunity to continue to work and serve our community, it can still be hard to maintain a positive attitude in this environment. I am frequently looking for positive stories, new opportunities, and bright spots. So here's your uplifting news for the day.

I came across a company called Skillpop, based in Charlotte, who do one-off pop-up classes for people to learn anything from decorating cookies, curling your hair, social media marketing, leadership skills, podcasting essentials, and everything in between. Sounds fun, right? The problem is, if you don't live in Charlotte (or one of their other cities), you're out of luck.

With the onset of Covid-19, they could no longer operate in the same way. They decided to completely change their business model and move to an entirely online concept. It's opened up really unique and fun learning opportunities to a whole new audience of people - people who couldn't have attended the in-person classes from parents who have kids at home to people who live in an entirely different city.

So, if you're interested in learning something new or just get a break from some of the stress, maybe check them out. But don't take up too many spots in the "crushing your money goals" course. I'm trying to get into that one. Skillpop Anywhere Classes.
